In iedere vezel is a poetic graphic novel about the impact of the colonial past in the Dutch East Indies. Some stories live on, while others fade away.
A crowdfunding campaign has been launched to cover the printing costs of the book.
Through Voordekunst, people can subscribe for a signed copy for €25. Additionally, unique prints in limited editions are available for purchase.
Gwen Stok and Christian Jongeneel each unearth impressions from their own backgrounds. For two years, they worked on refining the stories and illustrations, until a balanced whole of text and image emerged, resulting in both a book and an exhibition.
Both creators are connected to the subject in their own way. Gwen was born and raised in the Netherlands. Her father’s family has a long history in the Dutch East Indies, a past that the family barely speaks about.Christian, on the other hand, grew up in Indonesia during the post-colonial period and has vivid memories of the landscape, the culture, and the people.
In iedere vezel was made possible with financial support from the Creative Industries Fund NL, Amarte, vfonds, and the City of Rotterdam. The project is organized by Stichting Letterhaven.
